Notting Hill

Luciano Giubbilei Studio — Notting Hill

Notting Hill

London, England

2019–2021

Conceived as a garden within a garden, this project sits quietly within the wider context of a communal green space. In keeping with the intimacy of a small London scheme, the planting focuses on shade-tolerant species, selected for their ability to bring volume and richness over time. Generating calm and a degree of privacy, greenery is used to form soft enclosures around each seating area, while a sculpture by Barbara Hepworth provides a subtle focal point and grounding presence.

Chris and Toby Marchant advised on plant selection and sourcing, which included Hydrangea quercifolia, Anemone japonica ‘Honorine Jobert’ and Epimedium x warleyense ‘Ellen Willmott’—plants chosen for their ability to thrive in shade and contribute texture and lightness.

The project was created in collaboration with designer Steven Volpe, of Studio Volpe, based in San Francisco.
