Nigel Hall RA
Nigel and I have worked together for many years, and throughout that time one of my favourite things is visiting him at his studio, an old chapel in South London. It is infused with a wonderful and permeating calm.
Nigel speaks of his pieces as a walk in the landscape – abstract and geometrical sculptures that are brought to life though the movement of the light, not unlike a landscape. What I have really learnt from Nigel is in the way he places his work, giving attention to the space and the light around them. Instead of simply imposing them on the setting, pieces must work as part of the overall composition to give an authentic sense of place.
