Ursula Von Rydingsvard
Ursula and I collaborated on RHS Chelsea 2014 when she made ‘Erratus’ for the garden I created. Her work is monumental and mysterious, and encouraged me to look at textures and layers anew. Her influence has also prompted me to re-examine the relationship between sculpture and spatial arrangements.
She is the one that taught me the meaning of ‘Erratus’; that I did not always need to search for the meaning when connecting with a piece of work. Instead I should not be afraid to get intellectually lost; that my own roving mind that was open was the best way to view her work because then my own emotional response would come.
I’m delighted that Ursula and I could work together again for the Venice Biennale 2015, with the support of Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
